2025 was the year I began an experiment – could I write a poem every single day (whether I wanted to or not) for the whole year? My Anno Vitae MMXXV.
It turns out I could. Many of them are not great (the good, the bad, and the ugly) but I learned that forcing myself to crank the cold engine often led to better results later in the day now that the engine was warming up. Writing as a discipline led to inspiration that may not have occurred had I not sat down in the first place.
Now as I look back I see a 2025 filled with self-portraits. Most of what I wrote was inward looking.
Given a year that has shown me the value of a disciplined project I think for 2026 it is worth doing again.
Nothing as strict as writing a poem a day. No I want to commit this new year to landscapes instead.
I will endeavor to write about the world around me instead of the world within me.
It should be interesting. Stay tuned.
