Just an update on the conflict for those of you not keeping score. Since the battle between Israel and Hamas erupted last week the score (in deaths caused) is as follows:
Israeli Defence Force: 460
Hamas Rocket Attacks: 4
The offensive continues.
Also – check out the following video on CNN explaining why it is so difficult to obtain an accurate idea of what is going on:
please consider all the math. 400 hamas rockets before israel responded. but whats a few hundred rockets here or there. why are the hamas not being dealt with by their own people? because even the \’innocent\’ residents feel the same as the hamas. for peace to occur all fighting must stop, or the biggest gun wins, every time. guess we\’ll seesteve

I just do it to annoy you. 🙂 The biggest gun will win, no doubt, but i the prize worth it. I would not want to be either Israel or Hamas frankly…it seems like a no win scenario unless the unthinkable happens and both sides stop fighting and work out a peace deal that respects the rights of both sovereign states…still, for that to happen Palestine would have to be given back statehood in the first place.

if israel wants they take it all. no real problem. the temple mount is only controlled by the muslims because israel allows it. if they can walk into gaza they can take any part of former israel. the muslim answer is for israelites to go to the coast and keep walking.not gonna happen

If Israel decided to take the Temple Mount they would have to deal with more than a few small nations on their border. For one thing, the US would have to decide what is more important to them the oil provided by Kuwait, Saudi Arabi, Iraq, Iran and Dubai or standing behind Israel because you can bet any nation that chooses to support the taing of the temple mount can kiss their oil goodbye.

It\’s obviously a crazy complex situation. The more we discuss it the more the complexity apears. Part of the problem is the temptation of those involved to resort to simple actions/reactions to solve an incredibly complex scenario.Hama\’s latest rocket lobbing has been the interntional equivalent of lobbing snowballs at the windows of a hated neighbor\’s home. Israel just happens to be the neighbour who got rally tired of it and stepped out the front door with a shotgun and started firing. It is possible for two groups of people who hate each other to co-exist. Just look to Northern Ireland and the peace that has shakily exisited there between the Unionists (with Great Britain behind them) and the Irish Rpublican Army. Before we had ever heard the word terrorist, before it became the international excuse for a country to do whatever it wanted to a group of people by labelling their actions terrorist – there was the IRA. In many ways Hamas, the PLO and others are middle eastern versions of the IRA. I mention the US in the mix because they are a significant power behind Israel and any peace accord must ultimately placate them. I also mention them becase we in the west tend to have anything east of New York and South of Europe demonized and polarized into a west versus east, crusader versus saracen mentality. A house divided against itself will fall. There is no black in this conflict – but there are many shades of gray for sure.
