IMHO

In my humble opinion the Israeli response to a series of rocket attacks from Gaza (one of which killed one woman and seriously injured two others) was VASTLY overstated. The massive airstrikes killed more than 230 Palestineans and injured more than 400 others. History has taught that these ridiculous exchanges do nothing to stop the violence. The Israeli airstrike should be condemned whole-heartedly. It will not be…but it should.

To my friends who believe through some poor reading of scripture that there will never be peace in the middle east and so why work toward that end? I can assure you via a good reading of scripture that human endeavor will never erase brokeness from our hearts but that is no grounds for diving head first into evil.

There are others who believe that scripture mandates we in the west maintain government policies that do all that is possible to maintain a state of Israel; That we bless whatever actions it takes to defend its sovereignty regardless of whether those actions are just because without such a state scripture cannot be fulfilled and Christ will not return.  It is pathetic to believe that God cannot accomplish His ends without human action. Pathetic.

The airstrike by Israel was nothing short of vengeance and judgement. No thinking modern warfare tactician or strategist would ever expect such a response to do anything other than fan the already hot flames of hatred against Israel in the middle east. There is no doubt the airstrike will only make things worse.

hmmm? your one statement about it \’\’pathetic to believe that God cannot accomplish His ends without human action. Pathetic.\’\’ first i concur with there being no obvious righteousness in Israels attack. moreso , neither the palestinian aggression. but how do we qualify God acting or not if not with the actions of people? 250 000 people were killed a year ago in a tsunami. is this God at work? evil? righteousness? should israel wait till250 are killed then even the score? obviously not. where innocent blood is shed evil gains a foothold. i am one of those who "poorly" read scripture and see no peace in the ME. sure work for peace. but dont hold yer breath. as a reader of history you recognize millions have died at the hands of tyrants. evil does gain a foothold . evil grows. some must stand against it. interesting that hamas and muslims have a singular desire to see israel dead and buried. even the \’innocent\’ muslims. those who do not carry guns want all israel gone. sadly this is not a football game with 2 sides in the \’right\’ where one gains the win and life goes on. the west as i see it, mainly the usa political regime is the only thing holding back israel. israel has the means to take the land and then some. not ironically in scripture the God of abe isaac and jake gave great victory to the nation of israel. whether taking the land or davidic rule. not quite evil. or is it? be nice if all the evil people on both sides would pick a place to have it out and go at it. not likely. moi

You and I, my friend, agree where it is important to. I appreciate so much your iron sharpening my blunt edges. We would do a good radio show together I think. As for peace in the ME…the subtlest lack of expectation bleeds into perspectives like a poison. We do not recognize until it is far too late the damage a small reduced expectation in the area of peace can have. Things like the Holocaust, Nazi Germany and thw Third Reich were not sweeping grand changes that happened overnight – but rather the still small changing of expectations in the population like one snowflake after another until the unstoppable avalanche occurs.I regret the words I chose and ironically it displayed the very extremism I was railing against. You are right…in the end the issues are not as black and white as I wish they were. There is such frustrating complexity that it would take Christ Himself to cut through it all. I pray one day soon He will. Blessings Brother.
