Good Words…

It’s never a good thing when you get a phone call at 4:30 am. This morning my phone call came and I learned that my step-father had died suddenly in the night.

These are some good words about Kenneth Goebel (1929-2008). I remember Kenny as a calm man. A quiet man. A man of deep faith. He was passionate about music and was a genius on the steel guitar backing up some of the greatest names in country music over the years. Kenny enjoyed a good conversation but was just as happy to silently enjoy your presence. Kenny was a reader…I cannot count the number of times he had read through his bible.

I am thankful for Kenny and for his presence in my mother’s life. I am thankful for the time they had together. I am thankful he died at home with my mother present. Kenny Goebel was a good man and he will be missed.

It seems clear that until now you have asked the wrong questions.  It is not about where you go.  Most christian see "faith" as their insurance policy for themselves or their family.  NOT. It is the journey that matters.  it is faith that matters NOT where it comes from.  Perhaps you should asked yourself why believe in a faith that has been the impetus for murder throughout the ages,  telling people everywhere that they are wrong.  The universe is a tremendous place.  Jesus was only a man.  Men are murderers, rapists and thieves to everyone around them. Why believe in a book written by such creatures?
There has been soooo much deleted from his life and corrupted by the times and the thinking of men. It seems naive to encourage your children to follow narrow minded judgemental thinking that is so clearly wrong. Thank you for sharing anyway.  May you and yours find that right path and be blessed for it.

It seems you probably meant to add this comment to the post titled "I believe".

It is not faith or sacred texts that is the source of this evil you reference…humanity can make evil decisions fairly well for themselves regardless of faith, creed, color, sex etc. Some have simply chosen to blame belief instead of the people responsible.

The effort to blame Christianity for evil is misleading and like blaming a particular vehicle for becoming a murderous weapon in the hands of a drunk while avoiding the drunk altogether.

I believe (and thankfully have not killed a single person).
