Reaching

This tree

Yet to leaf

But long in the bud

Is like a crazy crowd of people

Climbing atop one another

Reaching spindly branch fingers

To the life-giving mother sky

“First one there wins!”

It is a collection of children

Joyously stretching

Without caution or care

Seeking only to continue the game

Greening

This grass is greening

Stretching forth

To reach beyond

These, the dry thin corpses

Of yesterday’s field

This fragrant infant carpet

Both lush and crackling

Beneath winter softened feet

A ready reminder

That it will try again and again

Each and every year

A persistence of life after death

Reminding us

that newness is nurtured

By decaying age

And entropy is a myth

May 3, 2025 – faith death

Your faith is dead

Like Lazarus in the tomb

Never to be called forth;

Or Peter sinking in the waters

Drowning in the darkness;

It is empty and cold

Like a corpse on Easter

That will never rise again;

You buried it in hollow truth

And walked willingly away

Until you forgot where you left it –

Good riddance

May 2, 2025 – Atlas

You are atlas

And I am the crushing blue sky

I hold the sun and the stars

And you hold me

By and by

In the heat of the day

May i bring the spring rain

To cool your hot brow

And ease the day’s strain

Until the buzzing night

Where we rest away pain

And wake in morn again

May 1, 2025 – rabbit

Rabbit ran a circuit

Round the yard one winter

As if to say – must never stop

Always be in motion

We will race the cold away

And wear a path to friend earth

Until the world awakens once more;

And i can’t say for sure if it worked

But spring came with melting

While life rose up from the dry ground

So maybe rabbit brought the rain

With persistence trailing in it’s wake

Yelling me, run harder, run faster

Your world will awaken once more
