wax and wane

I know I can wax

As a supernova star

In fury and intensity

Stripping the flesh

From the close ones

And I know

I can wane

Like a beaten dog

Into the safer shadows

Where even the sharpest eyes

Lose sight of my fearful face

I am the phases of the moon

Rising and setting

Full bright across the black night sky

Or dark new disc hidden away

And all that is between

A constant inconsistency

Of faces seen and unseen
